The last victim of Napier gunman Jan Molenaar was discharged from Hawke's Bay Hospital today.
Leonard Holmwood, a friend and neighbour of Molenaar, was shot when he went to the aid of three police officers earlier this month.
Senior Constable Len Snee was killed and Senior Constables Bruce Miller and
Grant Diver and Mr Holmwood were badly injured.
Molenaar killed himself more than 24 hours later.
Mr Holmwood said today he wished to thank everyone who had offered him help and support since the incident on Napier Hill, just over two weeks ago.
"I would like to thank the hospital staff from ICU to ward staff - it has been better than first class - my heart will always have a special place for you all.
"Thumbs up to everyone," he said in a statement released through the hospital.
"To my family, friends, Hawke's Bay community and the police, I thank you from the very bottom of my heart for all your support, it has been very humbling."
Mr Holmwood offered his best wishes to Mr Miller and Mr Diver as they continued to recover.
"I still have some way to go before I recover from my injuries and I would therefore ask the media to respect my privacy and leave me to continue to recuperate," he said.
Mr Miller and Mr Diver were released from Hawke's Bay Hospital last Friday.
Molenaar shot the four men when he returned to his Chaucer Road home to find the officers doing a cannabis search.
Molenaar's partner, Delwyn Keefe, appeared in Napier District Court last week on charges of selling cannabis, offering to sell cannabis and possession of cannabis for supply and was remanded to reappear on June 3.
