The final building constructed on the site, which is available for lease, provides a 476sq m workshop with full drive-through capability. Wakeman says there are double 4.2m and 6m-wide roller doors at the front and the rear of the workshop plus about 105sq m of first floor offices.
She says the building would suit an auto glass provider or other complementary vehicle-oriented tenant.
The first tenant to move into the auto centre was Vehicle Testing New Zealand with its building configured to cater for heavy vehicles and private cars including inspection pits and twin drive-though bays designed for trucks and trailers.
VTNZ provides heavy and private vehicle Warrants of Fitness and Certificates of Fitness (COF) and vehicle condition assessment from its Silverdale premises.
Next to VTNZ is Cornish Truck and Van Limited which provides full servicing and pre COF checks offering a first-time pass guarantee and assisting transport companies achieve a Five Star New Zealand Transport Agency rating. Its servicing equipment includes brake rollers for correcting COF brake imbalances, along with wheel and axle alignment camera technology to reduce tyre wear and high fuel consumption which can be major issues for heavy vehicle operators.
Cornish also provides a 24-hour emergency callout service and off-site servicing with its main service vehicles fitted with compressors and welders as well as other mechanical equipment.
Sister company Cornish Auto Tech operates from another building on the site offering general auto electrical and auto repair services for all types of vehicles. The other two tenants are a Bridgestone Tyre Centre and heating and air-conditioning installation and servicing specialist Thermal Solutions. Both companies have moved from nearby premises.
Wakeman says Silverdale is continuing to attract tenants who cannot find suitable, affordable industrial premises on the North Shore.
"It's very hard for heavier industries such as the auto trade to find large premises on the Shore these days because landlords are more interested in 'clean' tenants such as distribution businesses which also need a good level of office accommodation which generates a higher rent.
"Silverdale is more welcoming to transport and auto tenants, and this specialist auto centre is a good example of that.
"It also offers easy access to and from the nearby north-south State Highway 1 motorway."
