Laptop batteries recalled due to fire hazard

SYDNEY - Hewlett-Packard is recalling thousands of rechargeable battery packs sold worldwide and used in laptop computers due to a potential fire hazard .

The voluntary recall comes after the company received reports a fault in the lithium-ion battery packs could cause it to overheat.

The company is recalling battery packs sold individually or used in HP Pavilion notebook computers models dv2000, dv2500, dv2700, dv6000, dv6500, dv6700, dv9000, dv9500 and dv9700.

They are also used in Compaq Presario models A900, C700, F700, V3000, V3500, V6000 and V6700, as well as HP Compaq models 6720s and HP G6000 and G7000 notebook computers.
