Lake Benmore treated for weed

People are being told to stay off Lake Benmore as Land Information New Zealand starts aerial applications of aquagel to control an infestation of lagarosiphon weed.

Land Information communications adviser Michael Mead said although aquagel was not dangerous to people, boaties and fishermen should clear the lake because a helicopter was involved.

Lagarosiphon major was confirmed across 2.5ha of the lake in the Ahuriri arm and delta two weeks ago, growing in water up to 3.5m deep.
