The Cross Creek Blues Club will host a Ladies Sing The Blues night at the Tin Hut in Tauherenikau this week.
Club publicity officer Rod Lawrence said special guest artist Laura Collins will front the Back Porch Blues Band from 7.15pm on November 6 and deliver a blend of acousticballads and blues in a format that was "a little different" than the usual monthly club evening.
"You can expect to hear a little BB, a little Koko, some Muddy Waters and many more with soulful vocals, sweet guitar solos, honky tonk style piano, zydeco accordion, warm upright bass and percussive drums."
Included in the Back Porch Blues Band on keys and accordion is Fallen Angels player Wayne Mason, who also was a founding member of Fourmyula and ex-Warratahs keyboardist; country-blues pickin' guitarist Matt Newman, who hails originally from Portland in Oregon, upright bassman George Barris, a seasoned player whose early fame dates back to the days of Highway, and drummer Pete Cogswell.
Mr Lawrence said Ms Collins, who boasts more than two decades of performance experience, has travelled her musical journey through folk, rock, blues and alt-country.
"She believes her music has now found its heart in what she calls blues 'n twang. Her originals and favourite covers have their roots in the southern states of USA - John Hiatt, Lyle Lovett, Gillian Welch and Blues spanning John Lee Hooker to Koko Taylor and Keb Mo," Mr Lawrence said.
"If you also like a mix of blues with a little country Bonnie Raitt-style, you'll enjoy Laura Collins and the Back Porch Band," he said.
