Labour MP Tamati Coffey's partner's contribution to Christmas cheer was repaid by a blow from a ceiling fan.
Tim Smith was reaching high on the Christmas tree when the unthinkable happened.
"This is what happens when you hang Christmas decorations on the high part of the Christmas tree and getknocked out by the ceiling fan and fall on ur elbow," Coffey said on Facebook with a picture he posted.
"Zoom in on elbow for extra effect. Merry Christmas"
Smith is not alone in being on the losing end of troubles with Christmas trees.
"There were quite a few injuries involving lifting and carrying Christmas trees, in particular bending over to pick it up," ACC said in its analysis of last year's Christmas-related injury data.
"People reaching up high to decorate the tree was also trending, reaching and twisting, as well as sustaining cuts from the branches. In some cases the tree fell over on to someone."
ACC reported 137 claims related to Christmas trees but didn't mention anyone being hit by a ceiling fan last year.
