Labour MP Barbara Edmonds and business executive Dame Therese Walsh dance to Abba at Bold Steps leadership conference

Two Kiwi leaders unexpectedly lit up the dance floor to an Abba classic at a leadership conference.

The impromptu performance to Abba’s Dancing Queen was at the Bold Steps Conference 2025, an event organised to empower women.

The dancing queens were Labour’s finance spokeswoman Barbara Edmonds and Dame Therese Walsh, the chair of Air New Zealand and ASB Bank.

Members of the crowd were also seen grooving to the 70s hit.

Barbara Edmonds and Dame Therese Walsh were spotted dancing to Abba at a leadership conference.

Walsh introduced the event at Spark Arena in Auckland, which kicked off at 8.45am today.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon was there before this morning’s Ikea opening ceremony at Sylvia Park.

He was on a discussion panel alongside Finance Minister Nicola Willis about “realising your ambition”.

Labour leader and former Prime Minister Chris Hipkins also made an appearance.

The event is set to wrap up just after 5pm.

Edmonds recently hit headlines after she said the National Party was “planning to sell off public assets” after Treasury confirmed it was halfway through the asset review.

“It is clear that National is planning to sell off our public assets. Today the Treasury said they are assessing whether the Government should own certain public assets, a clear indication that they are laying the groundwork for asset sales. Labour will protect our public assets,” Edmonds said yesterday.
