Kiwi woman charged with attempted murder after Sunshine Coast stabbing

A Whangarei father was "shocked" to learn his daughter was facing an attempted murder charge following a stabbing on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

Caroline Ann Rossiter, 45, appeared at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday, accused of stabbing a 48-year-old's neck and arm on Monday night.

She applied for bail, but was remanded in custody until a committal mention hearing in March.

Rossiter is originally from Whangarei, and attended Whangarei Girls' High School, but currently lives in Mountain Creek on the Sunshine Coast.

Her father, William Rossiter, told the Herald he learnt of his daughter's charge on Wednesday.

He didn't know much about the incident and hadn't had an opportunity to speak with his daughter.

Caroline Rossiter, who works as a caregiver, had been living on the Sunshine Coast for about eight years.

"She came back a couple of months ago for a holiday, that was the last time I saw her."

William Rossiter said he wouldn't travel to the Sunshine Coast to see his daughter because she hadn't listed him as a person with visitation rights.

The Herald also understands the wounded man, stabbed outside North Buderim shopping centre about 9.45pm on Monday (local time), is also a Kiwi and from Whangarei.

On Tuesday morning, Queensland Police said emergency services were called to a Jones Rd property just after midnight, where the man was found.

He was taken to Nambour Hospital in a serious condition but was stabilised, police said.

It's understood the pair, who are believed to have been in a relationship, argued before Rossiter allegedly struck the man with a bladed weapon, the Sunshine Coast Daily reported.

Queensland detectives initially appealed for witnesses to an argument between a woman and a man at the shopping centre about 9.45pm.

The Sunshine Coast Daily reported the accused handed herself into police on Tuesday morning, and also reported "a trail of blood" from the front of a coffee shop, down a footpath and along Jones Rd was found on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the newspaper also said police will allege Rossiter was in a car which drove up to the man as he walked outside the shops on Pittard Rd about 9.40pm Monday.
