Kiwi snatched from bird sanctuary

A kiwi has been stolen from Queenstown's Kiwi and Birdlife Park after a break-in at the popular tourist venture last night.

The female bird was taken from her burrow and staff say she must have put up quite a fight, as feathers have been found scattered throughout the park.

Locals are being asked to look out for anything suspicious, particularly at backpackers' or motel accommodation.
