Kiwi mum 'overwhelmed' as search for daughter's father goes viral

A Kiwi woman who took to social media for help to find the father of her 13-year-old daughter says the search has become overwhelming since it went viral on Facebook.

Kerryn Leigh, who did not want to reveal her last name, met an Australian named Rodney while living in Queenstown 13 years and 9 months ago while he was on a three-day snowboarding trip with two friends.

The jewellery designer, who is originally from Christchurch but now based in Perth, gave birth to their daughter without his knowledge nine months later.

The 52-year-old is now on a mission to find him so her daughter, who is about to turn 13, can meet her father.

Since posting on Facebook about her mission on Friday, Kerryn Leigh said she had been given the details of just about every Rodney in Queensland.

"It's overwhelming for me and I'm pretty sure it's going to be overwhelming at the other end," she told Fairfax.

"There's nothing that's come through of any real confirmation, there are a couple of possibilities, but I just need to know that these people were in Queenstown at that time."

The post has been shared more than 14,000 times and has attracted hundreds of comments -- the majority of which are positive.

In it, Kerryn Leigh wrote: "We want nothing from him but possible conversation. Who knows, I just need to do this for her."

She described Rodney as a surfer living on the Gold Coast with long scruffy hair, blue eyes and is believed to be in his late 40s now.
