A Kiwi man has been left with severe injuries which could take up to a year to heal after being mugged in London.
Joel Perry was left a fractured pelvis, dislocated hip and broken knees and ankles after the June 9 assault, a Givealittle page set up by the hisbrother Kent Perry states.
"He was assaulted... had his wallet and phone stolen and was threatened with some quite vicious threats, threats to kill," Kent Perry told Fairfax.
The young man is being treated in King's College Hospital and has undergone three surgeries.
"He managed to move to a wheelchair on Wednesday, to get used to leg movements. Joel's pretty stoic and pretty tough, and he's got a pretty good head on his shoulders, so he's taking it in his stride, but he was pretty shaken up," Kent Perry told Fairfax.
"He will need pretty extensive physiotherapy and occupational therapy as well."
Doctors have told Joel Perry's family he will likely be able to travel back to New Zealand in six weeks' time but his recovery will take six to 12 months.
"As Joel is not covered by ACC in NZ or UK Social Services, the cost of his travel back to NZ and all rehabilitation will have to be personally funded," the Givealittle page reads.
The family is raising money for Joel Perry's flights home and ongoing treatment costs.
Givealittle donations have amassed more than $8000 in the two days since the fundraising page was set up.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Mfat) spokesman said the New Zealand High Commission in London had provided assistance to Joel Perry's family.
