The name of the man, struck and killed by a train in the King Country town of Te Kuiti early yesterday, has been released.
He was 36-year-old Jack Huka Hepi, of Te Kuiti.
Senior Sergeant Rob Van Kalken said there were no suspicious circumstances and the death had been referred
to the coroner.
The driver of the southbound train saw the man lying on the tracks and applied the emergency brakes as the train passed through the town at 1.48am.
However, the train could not stop in time and the man died instantly from multiple injuries.
