Karaoke bar killing: Victim named

The man who died after being hit by a vehicle outside an east Auckland Karaoke bar on Saturday was 41-year-old Maraetai mechanic Richard Samuels.

He died near 123 Casino in Gooch Place, Somerville. Mr Samuels' post-mortem exam was completed by Sunday afternoon.

A man being being spoken to by police in relation to the death has now been charged on other matters.

The investigation into Mr Samuels' death is ongoing, Detective Senior Sergeant Albie Alexander of Counties/Manukau Police said .

"The vehicle that was involved in the tragic incident has been located and seized and is undergoing a forensic examination.

"We have spoken with the driver who was arrested late yesterday on pre-existing unrelated matters."

The arrested man is a 44-year-old Botany Downs resident. He will appear in the Manukau District Court tomorrow charged with three counts of obtaining by deception.
