Karaoke bar killing: Accused faces other charges

A man has appeared in court following the hit and run death of an east Auckland father of three.

Sports coach Richard Samuels, 41, was killed in a hit-and-run in a carpark outside a karaoke bar while out celebrating his wife's birthday.

He was hit by a car during a confrontation with another man in the carpark near the 123 Casino Karaoke Bar in Howick about 2.15am on Saturday.

A man appeared in Manukau District Court today on unrelated charges - three deception charges and one of driving while forbidden.

The Botany Downs man stood with his head bowed during his brief appearance in the dock.

He received interim name suppression before being remanded until his next appearance.
