State Highway 2 through the Karangahake Gorge has been partially reopened following a crash.
One lane of the highway between Paeroa and Waihi has reopened to clear a backlog of traffic.
A car crashed into a power pole, which brought down electricity lines across the road.
There are significant delays
for drivers between Te Aroha Rd, Paeroa and Dean Cres, Waihi, police said.
It was likely that the road would have to be fully closed again for engineers to fix the power lines.
