Jury deadlocked in trial of man accused of killing sick mother

A Hamilton jury is having trouble reaching a verdict in the trial of Taumarunui man accused of attempted murder for giving his dying mother an overdose of morphine.

Ian Kitchener-Crutchley is on trial at the High Court in Hamilton.

After almost four and a half hours the jury returned to say it could not reach a verdict.

The judge told the jury members he had the power to discharge them, but asked them to retire again and try to reach a unanimous decision.
