Police minister Judith Collins has labelled as "sexist" the comments of a senior Labour politician who said he did not want to procreate with her.
Finance spokesman David Cunliffe was asked by radio host Paul Henry which MP he would "make children with".
Cunliffe replied: "Well I have thought that if Judith Collins was the last woman on Earth the species would probably become extinct."
He apologised yesterday on television.
Collins said Cunliffe called just minutes before he was due to go on air.
"I accepted his apology," she said of Cunliffe's comments. "I thought they were inappropriate for a man who wants to be Minister of Finance and possibly Prime Minister one day."
She said she had listened to the original comments on RadioLive's replay facility.
"It was strange. Out of nowhere. I thought it was a pretty sexist comment, frankly."
