Burglars in Dunedin have made off with a large number of items with sentimental value.
Dunedin police Constable Kylie Batten said burglars had targeted jewellery, medals, clothing and miscellaneous household items in the Roslyn, Maori Hill and Belleknowes area over the past few weeks.
A large number of the itemsstolen held significant sentimental value to the victims, she said.
While police were working hard to respond, investigate, resolve and prevent burglaries, people needed to do what they could to protect their property.
For people who stayed at home during the day it was particularly important to be aware of suspicious or unknown people in and around your residence, Batten said.
She urged people to dial 111 immediately if they saw someone breaking into a neighbour's house or car.
Phone police on 03 471 4800 if you have any information, have noticed anything suspicious in the area or have been approached to purchase jewellery or similar items. Alternatively, contact CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
