A $100,000 George Andrews sculpture of Rotorua-born aviatrix Jean Batten still doesn't have a home to go to, with less than a month until it is completed.
The Rotorua District Council and Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust cannot agree on a site for the 4m-high sculpture, which the trust is donating to
the city. The council's community, parks and recreation committee has opted for more talks with the trust.
The council's preferred site is Jean Batten Square, which already features a memorial to the pilot, sculpted by Marshall Watt. The trust initially thought the sculpture would be placed in the Government Gardens or at the Convention Centre, but the council quashed those ideas.
The trust had planned to have Prime Minister Helen Clark unveil the sculpture next month to coincide with the Asia Pacific Women in Aviation conference in Taupo.
