Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will tackle humanitarian issues and renegotiating the TPP when she meets Malcolm Turnbull in Sydney.
In her first overseas trip since becoming prime minister, Ardern will raise her view on Australia's response to the Manus Island humanitarian crisis in face-to-face talks with her counterpart.
The pairwill meet for several hours over brunch on Sunday at Kirribilli House. While they're expected to cross paths at the APEC Summit in Vietnam and East Asia Summit in the Philippines next week, Ardern wanted the chance to formally meet first.
She's revealed she will again put forward New Zealand's 2013 offer to take 150 asylum seekers and refugees from Australian offshore detention centres in response to concerns about what's happening on Manus Island.
About 600 people have barricaded themselves inside a now closed detention facility which has no power, water or food, fearing for their safety if they leave the compound.
Ardern is also expected to seek backing from Australia to renegotiate part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership to remove investor-state dispute settlement clauses, which allow foreign investors to sue governments.
It was hoped a final agreement could be reached when world leaders meet next week but Japanese officials say attempts at renegotiation could cause the new TPP-11 proposal to collapse.
The rights of Kiwis living in Australia are also expected to come up in Sunday's discussions.
