Q. Do ostriches bury their heads in the sand?
A. According to the Canadian Museum of Nature, ostrich head-burying is a myth.
But if threatened while sitting on the nest, which is simply a cavity scooped in the earth, the hen presses her long neck flat along the ground, blending with the background.
The ostrich is the largest of about 8600 known bird species and can reach a height of 2.6m and a weight of 135kg.
An ostrich egg weighs about 1.5kg, 90 times heavier than a chook's egg.
