A Spanish trade union is suing a bakery after the severed arm of an employee was thrown into a rubbish bin. Bolivian immigrant Franns Rilles lost his left arm in a kneading machine at
the Rovira bakery in Valencia. The union says that while the man was being taken to a hospital someone threw his arm into the rubbish, the machine was then cleaned and production continued.

A Gold Coast radio station could face action from the SPCA after trying to make a piglet fly. The SPCA was inundated with complaints after the Gold FM breakfast crew tied 200 helium balloons to the clearly distressed animal. "Would they have done this to a puppy, a kitten or a foal - I think not," said SPCA vet Dr Anne Chester.

A Westmere reader was interested to see TV One's trailer for Wuthering Heights describe it as "a brand new adaptation". It was made in 1998. He wonders how they would bill an adaptation made this century.

"I completed my Diploma of Teaching in November 2008 but am still getting paid at the rate of an untrained teacher ($28,000) thanks to the slow processing times of the Ministry of Education."

Your frustrated worker in Sideswipe needs to think about the timing of the pay cycles at the Ministry of Justice," says a well-informed reader. "She obviously started on a Monday at the start of a pay cycle, then two days later was the pay day for the previous fortnight - which she didn't work so would not receive any pay. The following Wednesday was not a pay day, so again she would get no pay. The third Wednesday after she started would therefore logically (and legally) be her first pay day."
