Maritime New Zealand and the Transport Accident Investigation Commission have begun investigations into New Zealand's latest jetboat accident.
A jetboat, run by Ngai Tahu Tourism, flipped on the Dart River, near Glenorchy, north of Queenstown, yesterday afternoon injuring three of the 18 tourists on board.
Two of
the passengers suffered collar bone injuries and the third a knee injury. The injuries were not thought to be serious.
It is the third incident in as many months on waterways near Queenstown.
A man died in a jetboat crash on the Matukituki River on Boxing Day last year and last month, two men died when a jetboat and jet ski collided on the Kawarau River.
Ngai Tahu Tourism spokesman David Kennedy said last night that the cause of the crash was a mystery.
"At this early stage, we do not have any information about what caused the accident. We have begun an investigation and have reported it to Queenstown Lakes district harbourmaster Marty Black."
Maritime New Zealand said yesterday that investigators would be travelling to the scene and staff from the Transport Accident Investigation Commission would also be investigating.
