Inquiry launched after baby's body found

Police are investigating the death of a newborn, or very young, baby whose body was found in Christchurch today.

Detective Inspector Tom Fitzgerald said an inquiry had begun into the age of the child and the circumstances surrounding the death.

The baby was found at an address in Hornbrook Street, Sydenham.

Police would not comment further today, he said.
