Inquiry into death of girl

The body of a 10-year-old girl who died in Christchurch Hospital yesterday has been released back to her family, police say.

Christchurch Southern CIB are investigating the girl's death and yesterday forensically examined her Neil St home in suburban Hornby.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Murton said the girl died in hospital about 3am yesterday after being admitted at 9.30pm on Friday.

A post-mortem had been completed, but results would not be known for at least a fortnight.

Mr Murton said the girl's family was co-operating fully with police and the examination of their home was conducted with their assistance.
