Inmate in court on kidnap, assault charges

A prison inmate made a brief appearance in Auckland District Court today on kidnapping and violence charges.

The inmate cannot be named and was remanded to reappear in the High Court at Auckland for a call-over on July 14.

He is charged with attempting to kidnap, assault and threatening to kill.

The charges arose from two separate incidents, in prison and in a prison van, and would be tried separately.

The man represented himself in court today.
