An inmate has died at Christchurch Men's Prison.
A Corrections spokesman confirmed to the Herald this morning that the man died yesterday.
A police spokeswoman said the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell. She said the death was a "medical event".
The death would the subject of an inspectorate
review and coroners inquest.
The age of the man has not been released.
