Injured tramper winched to safety

A tramper was winched to safety after injuring herself in a fall while walking on Sunday.

The incident occurred on the Kereru Track in Days Bay, Life Flight rescue helicopter crewman Mike Beausoleil said.

Life Flight received the call about 1.15pm and dispatched the Wellington Westpac Rescue Helicopter to the scene, which located the walking group after a 6 minute flight.

The injured woman was winched into the helicopter and flown to Wellington Hospital, he said.
