Injured tramper lifted from ravine

Lifeflight rescued an injured hunter from a ravine in south-west Wairarapa yesterday afternoon after his companion ran to a nearby house for help.

The man, in his fifties, had fallen down a steep ravine on farmland.

The Westpac rescue helicopter was able to lower a paramedic to the man, and winch him on board.

Crewman Logan Taylor said the man had suffered moderate injuries.

"He couldn't have walked out of there," he said.

"If it hadn't been for the guy that was with him, we probably wouldn't have found him."
