Rolls due to close
Electoral rolls for this year's general election close tomorrow so they can be printed. People who miss out must still enrol, but will have to cast a special vote on polling day, a process which takes longer than the normal ballot.
Enrolment update forms were sent to all registered electors early last month, and electors need return them only if their details need updating. Anyone who did not receive a pack is not enrolled. Enrolment forms can be obtained from PostShops, public libraries and council offices, by calling 0800 Enrol Now (0800 36 76 56), or by visiting the Elections website.
Make new friends
The Cameo Club is a Christian-based non-denominational organisation which meets once a month to encourage folk to get together and make new friends. New immigrants and senior citizens are especially welcome. The next meeting is at 1pm today at Greyfriars Church hall at 544 Mt Eden Rd, Mt Eden. Animal welfare campaign
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has launched a campaign to improve animal welfare at livestock saleyards, starting with educating people about their responsibilities under the Animal Welfare Act. MAF officers will visit farmers supplying unfit stock, to gauge the condition of the rest of the stock on the farm, and saleyards will be inspected for compliance. If you have any information that might assist in this campaign, call your nearest MAF office.
Opera
Operatunity, featuring soprano Susan Boland, perform songs from the home and the heart at the Rose Theatre, Belmont, today and in the Jubilee Hall in Parnell tomorrow. The shows start at 11am and the $20 ticket includes a light lunch with the artists. For bookings and information call 625-9909.

Quartet at theatre
Goldfingers string quartet is in concert tonight at the University of Auckland School of Music theatre at 6 Symonds St. The quartet comprises violinists Lara Hall and Alisha Hunt, Christine Bowie on viola and Victoria Simonsen on cello. Pacific film showing
A young Samoan dying of tuberculosis seeks out an old man wise in the ways of the old gods in Flying Fox in a Freedom Tree, directed by Martyn Sanderson from the novel by Albert Wendt. The film is being screened by the Auckland Film Society at the Rialto Cinema in Newmarket at 6.30pm, and everyone is welcome.
