At 11 am last Saturday a man armed with what appeared to be a pistol entered a pharmacy in Alexandra St and demanded drugs and cash.
The staff managed to escape by a side door into neighbouring premises and alerted the police. The offender, left behind in the chemist shop, made off with small amounts of drugs and money.
He is described as a Maori or Pacific Islander, about 1.7m (5ft 7in), of solid to heavy build and in his mid to late twenties.
He was wearing dark-coloured tee shirt and baggy shorts, a dark baseball cap and wraparound sunglasses.
