ROAD CLOSURES
* The following intersections in Auckland will be closed for the filming of a series of road safety commercials:
* On Saturday, 5.30am to noon, Church St and Captain Springs Rd, Onehunga; noon to 7pm, McDonald St and Altham Ave, Morningside (rain date June 14).
* On Sunday,
6am to 2pm, Albert and Swanson Sts, central city; noon to 7pm, Kitchener, Princes and Bowen Sts and Waterloo Quadrant, central city (rain date June 15).
* On Monday, 6am to 3pm, Martin Ave, Rossgrove Tce and Chatham Ave, Mt Albert; 1pm to 7pm, Parkdale Rd and Fontenoy St, Mt Albert (rain date June 16).
APPOINTMENTS
* The following have been elected to the Pasifika Festival Advisory Board; Savea Al Harrington Lavea (Samoa), Neville Tauelima Luisi (Niue), and Will Ilolahia (Tonga). Other representatives are Lasaro R. lalanabaravi (Fiji), Eva William (Cook Islands), Fala Haulangi (Tuvalu) and Fala Iosua (Tokelau).
TREE PLANTING
* Today is Arbor Day, and children and adults are invited to help restore the regional park at Hamlins Hill/Mutukaroa in Mt Wellington by planting native trees. Meet at park's main entrance on Great South Rd, near Sylvia Park Rd, at 12.30pm, and bring sturdy shoes and a spade. A barbecue afterwards. Phone (09) 353-9532 for information.
OPENING
* The new Wesley Community Centre on Sandringham Rd will be officially opened on Saturday at 11am, with cultural performances, music, basketball, face-paintings, celebrity guests and lots of family fun. Everyone is welcome.
RECOGNITION
* Nominations close tomorrow for people who have given their time and energy to projects in Manukau City. A special celebration to reward these volunteers will be held on June 24. Nomination forms from any council centre, library, Citizens' Advice Bureau, community house or recreation centre.
COMMUNITY BOARDS
* There have been changes at the top of two community boards on the North Shore. Mike Cohen is now chairman of Devonport Community Board, with John Duder as his deputy, and Wayne Tisdall takes the chair in Takapuna, with Jan O'Connor as deputy.
PICTURE HISTORY
* The Epsom and Eden Historical Society needs old pictures and photographs to complete its history of the Epsom area. The material will be scanned and returned to owners. If you can help phone John on 625-0102.
