Hunter thrown from horse

A hunter was airlifted to hospital with a broken leg yesterday after falling from his horse in a remote area of the East Cape.

The 20-year-old Te Kaha man and his friend were hunting near Potaka when his horse was spooked by a charging stag.

He fell and landed awkwardly, breaking his lower leg. His mate got him to an area where a helicopter could land and then rode out to get help.
