Concerns for the wellbeing of missing Masterton yachtie Brendon Gordon Eagle are growing.
Mr Eagle , 35, who was suffering from depression, left home on September 27 without his medication and the last confirmed sighting of him was in the Marlborough Sounds early in October aboard a yacht
he had recently bought.
Detective Sue Mackle, of Masterton, said it was possible he was in the Marlborough Sounds.
The yacht, a blue and white H28 yacht with no name painted on the side, recently broke down at the entrance to Tory Channel and was towed to Picton's Waikawa Bay for engine repairs.
"There's been a few sort of believed sightings around the Marlborough Sounds and he was known to be down there on October 12 when he had a motor fixed and was heading out of Waikawa Bay," she said today.
"That was our last confirmed sighting of him, but he's believed to still be in the area."
Ms Mackle said the weather in the Marlborough Sounds had not been good and Mr Eagle was not an experienced sailor.
"Further bad weather is predicted. This, coupled with his inexperience, health issues and lack of contact with his family is causing some concern."
Mr Eagle is described as a Caucasian, of medium build, 1.75m tall with short dark hair.
He left his home driving a 2007 grey Mazda, registration ECD107, which had not been found.
Ms Mackle said the car would probably be on the Wellington side of Cook Strait.
"He purchased the boat from someone who had it moored at Seaview Marina," she said.
Ms Mackle said normally cars left parked were noticed within a few days, but Mr Eagle may have put it into storage.
