Hundreds attend murdered farmer's funeral

Hundreds of mourners have turned out for the funeral of murdered Manawatu farmer Scott Guy today as police continue the hunt to find his killer.

Mr Guy, 31, was found dead in the driveway of his home on Aorangi Rd, south of Feilding, on Thursday last week.

A post-mortem examination confirmed he died from several gunshot wounds.

His funeral service began at 11am at the Anglican Church in Feilding.

Mr Guy's casket arrived at the church on the back of a ute with the registration plate MR GUY, accompanied by six farmers wearing cowboy hats.

His wife, Kylee, was the last to enter the church.

The 300-capacity church was full and around 500 others were outside the church, where screens showing the service had been set up.

A private burial at a separate location would be held for close family and friends following the service.

The order of service said the funeral began with the hymn Amazing Grace, followed by tributes from Mr Guy's father Bryan, his siblings and a number of friends.

A friend would also read a tribute from Mrs Guy, who was pregnant with the couple's second child.

A message from Mr Guy's family in the order of service asked the attendees to never forget him and keep his memory alive.

"Scott knew we loved him dearly because we told him, and we can take some comfort in this."

Meanwhile, police said they had received little information from the public regarding Mr Guy's murder, and yesterday made a plea for anyone with information to come forward.

"I'm not sure what the reason is behind the lack of response. It may be that someone [who] knows something is too scared," Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger said.

She said anyone with information, no matter how irrelevant they thought it might be, should call police.

Five road checks near Mr Guy's farm were set up between 4.30am and 8am yesterday in an attempt to identify regular road users who might have witnessed something last week.

About 230 motorists were stopped and spoken to by police, including 80 who were regular users of roads into the area.

Searchers also scoured roadsides and a nearby river to try to find the murder weapon.

Ms Schwalger said police were yet to find a reason for the murder, and were looking into Mr Guy's background for links that could have led to his death.
