Chief High Court Judge Tony Randerson is to get a housing allowance of up to $20,000 on top of his new salary of $323,000.
But requests by colleagues for a similar allowance were denied, the Dominion Post reported.
The decision was revealed by the Remuneration Authority when it announced anew pay scale for judges. Chief Justice Sian Elias will now receive $372,000, Supreme Court judges $348,000, Court of Appeal judges $325,000, and High Court judges $303,000.
The Remuneration Authority said Justice Randerson's job warranted bases in both Auckland and Wellington. It would not be appropriate for him to receive the standard allowance of $5600.
