House destroyed by fire in Onehunga

A house has been destroyed by fire in the central Auckland suburb of Onehunga.

Emergency services were called out to a property on Campbell Road shortly before 10am and are still there.

A spokeswoman for the Fire Service said the blaze had reached a second alarm and four fire trucks are now at the scene.

"It was well ablaze when we got there,'' Northern Fire Communications shift manager Megan Ruru said.

Ms Ruru said one person had been found at the back of the building and was okay. The ambulance service had been called in for precaution.

A fire investigator will look into the cause of the blaze, which is not yet known.
