If you are experiencing or witnessing family harm in progress, Deans said you should call police immediately on 111.
Anonymous reports of family harm can be made by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visiting crimestoppers-nz.org.
HALT spearheads a coordinated approach to supporting people and families suffering domestic abuse or violence by connecting people with organisations and agencies who can help.
While it doesn’t provide any direct services, the team collaborates with relevant organisations and agencies to offer the right service at the right time to those in need, while also monitoring their progress.
HALT can be contacted on (06) 366 0540 and more information is available at halt.org.nz.
“We all have a role in reducing family harm. It’s not just one person’s problem, one or family’s problem – it’s a community issue. Tamariki can’t thrive in environments where they don’t feel safe, and adults cannot reach their potential when living in fear. Please, make the call so we can connect those in need with the right support,” HALT says.
