Horowhenua Community Camera Trust installs safety camera at Tiro Tiro Rd

A local community trust is helping to keep Horowhenua road users safe.

Horowhenua Community Camera Trust, with support from the Horowhenua District Council and police, has installed a safety camera near the top of the Tiro Tiro Rd and Mako Mako Rd corner.

Horowhenua Community Camera Trust’s future developments adviser, Brett Gillies, said this installation was another step in the trust’s mission.

“The trust is providing safety camera coverage across the entire policing district. This one is special. Police, locals and Hokio Beach people have long wanted it. With Electra, we have delivered this first of what we hope are many more installations.”

He said the camera has received a lot of positive responses.

“It’s been welcomed by residents of the nearby Trackside Villas and Levin Racing Club, which is donating to the project. On behalf of my fellow trustees, I am very grateful to the Lotteries Commission, partners, helpers and sponsors.”

Pat Thomas of Trackside said it was worthwhile assisting Horowhenua Community Camera Trust.

“We are especially delighted that one of our residents is sponsoring part of this project.”

Levin senior sergeant Sam Gilpin said police are pleased with the installation.

“This longstanding police request for a camera to be installed at this location has eventuated and we congratulate the camera trust and Electra for making it happen.”
