Homicide investigation launched in East Cape

Police have launched a homicide investigation after the discovery of an elderly woman's body in a house near a remote East Cape settlement.

Police said the body was discovered in a house near Raukokere, northeast of Opotiki, yesterday. She did not live at the address.

She was last seen with an elderly man understood to be her partner at a local supplies store on Thursday.

Police said they were searching the area for the man.
