Police are launching a homicide investigation after a person was found dead in Charing Cross, in Selwyn.

Emergency services were called to the scene, between Grange Road and Telegraph Road, about 3.30pm.

Police said initial enquiries suggested an altercation took place between two men.

A number of people were assisting police with their enquiry, and a scene guard would remain in place overnight.

A full scene examination would begin tomorrow morning.
