A man has been charged with assault after a 42-year-old man was found dead at a South Auckland house yesterday.
Police found the man's body at a house on Waimana Rd in Conifer Grove about 3pm.
They were called to the address by a 39-year-old man who has since been charged with assault.
Police this morning said a homicide investigation had been launched and further charges were likely.
Forensic examinations will be carried out at two addresses this morning, and a post-mortem examination would be carried out later today.
Police said they were not seeking anyone else in relation to the matter.
The Waimana Rd house was cordoned off last night and a scene guard was in place.
A mobile police station truck arrived at the house about 7.30pm yesterday.
Officers appeared to be working inside the large truck and inside the house.
Neighbours said they had not been told what happened but believed a man and woman lived at the address.
The man was friendly, said one neighbour who wished not to be named.
Another neighbour said the man's rubbish bins had been outside his gate for "a long time".
The house is opposite a number of industrial businesses, and workers were seen speaking with police officers this afternoon.
