A homicide investigation is underway in Manawatu following the discovery of a body outside a block of units this morning.
Police have confirmed the victim was male but did not know the age because the identity was yet to be confirmed.
Police were called to the Taieri Court units inPalmerston North at 7:30am after a member of the public discovered the body.
"We are treating the death as suspicious and we have cordoned off an area outside the block of units so we can conduct a scene examination," said Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan.
"There are a number of residential properties and buildings in the area where the victim was located and officers are continuing to speak with residents."
"There is a lot of information we don't have as this investigation is in its infancy.
Mr Sheridan said the immediate priority is to identify the victim and perform an area canvass to try and gather information and piece together what has happened.
ESR are supporting police with the scene examination, which is expected to run into the next 24-48 hours.
