Homicide inquiry launched after death of 33-year old man

UPDATE - Christchurch police have launched a homicide investigation after a 33-year-old man was found dead in the central city.


Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Harvey said the Christchurch man was found by police about midnight at the intersection of Manchester St and Kilmore St.


Anyone who was in the area just before midnight last night is asked to contact the Christchurch police.


Several streets in the central city are closed -- Manchester, Kilmore, Madras and Peterborough -- and some road blocks are in place.


Road closures were likely to remain in place for much of the day.


Mr Harvey said the inquiry was still in the early stages and no further information was available.
