A homicide inquiry has been launched after the body of a man was found at a Northland beach late last night.
The body of a 62-year-old man was found in a vehicle on Tokerau Beach, in Whatuwhiwhi, about 10.30pm yesterday, police said.
A 61-year-old woman was now helping police with their inquiries.
No arrests had been made at this stage, police said.
Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys said police were carrying out area inquiries today, as well as a scene examination at a house in Whatuwhiwhi.
The car where the deceased was found was also being examined.
A post mortem examination on the man was being carried out in Auckland today, he said.
The man's name would not be released until next of kin had been notified.
Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a red Nissan Primera car, registration XU4691, around the Tokerau Beach and Whatuwhiwhi area between 7.30pm and 10.30pm yesterday, Mr Johnston said.
