Wairarapa men's bowls selector Warren Wyeth is optimistic home advantage will give his team a head start at the annual Tararua quadrangular tournament, being played at the Masterton Bowling Club on Sunday.
Up against the best Kapiti, Manawatu and Wellington centres can offer, it will be a tough assignmentfor Wairarapa. But with six Masterton players in their line-up, there will be no excuses when it comes to knowledge of the playing conditions.
"We managed to pull off a win last time this tourney was played here and hopefully that's a good omen for this one," Wyeth said.
Playing the singles for Wairarapa will be Ian Monaghan, with Les O'Donovan and Warren Fisher in the pairs and John Claydon, Graeme Tindall, Richard Anderson and Scott MacKenzie in the fours.
The Wairarapa women's team will also confront Kapiti, Manawatu and Wellington. Judith Wyeth will play the singles, Makaia Campbell and Wendy Mitchell the pairs and Darkie Barrow, Jean Paku, Teresa Hogg and Avis Cooper the fours. Lansdowne Bowling Club will be the venue for men's and women's matches featuring the senior B teams from the four provinces.
