Wairarapa has made a solid start to their defence of their national division one women's hockey title, scoring comfortably in their opening two matches at the 2004 tournament at Tauranga.
Monday 's action saw them beat Nelson by 5-1 after leading 2-0 at halftime. Ana Playle netted twice with other goal
scorers being Courtney McGregor, Elizabeth Perry and Olivia Pearce.
Coach Andy Wilson said Wairarapa played below par in the fist half with Nelson having a clear edge in both territory and possession. However, Wairarapa had lifted their effort several notches in the second spell and, in the end, deserved their winning margin.
Wairarapa faced Southland Combined yesterday and ran out easy 8-0 winners, scoring four goals in each half. Elizabeth Perry (3), Ana Playle (2), Kiri Playle, Carla Burt and Jesse Davies all got themselves on the scoresheet.
Wilson was pleased with the manner in which Wairarapa consistently opened up the Southland defence by moving the ball quickly and constantly changing the direction of play.
Wairarapa was expecting a stern test from unbeaten Canterbury B in their match this morning while tonight they meet another of the tournament favourites in Hawke's Bay.
