WELL DONE: Tora fireman Ian Hunter (left) receives his National Certificate from Wairarapa principal rural fire officer Phill Wishnowsky.
Tora volunteer Ian Hunter has become the first Wairarapa rural fireman to achieve a National Certificate in Fire Fighting (Vegetation) Level 3.
Phill Wishnowsky, Wairarapa principal rural fire officer, presented Mr Hunter with his certificate at a recent training day at Masterton fire station.
Mr Hunter, who is the ruralfire force controller at Tora, is the first Wairarapa volunteer rural fireman to complete the level 3 National Certificate.
Rural fire officer and community and education co-ordinator Grant Detheridge-Davies said the certificate was "a great milestone for Ian and the Wairarapa Rural Fire District.
"This National Certificate acknowledges the time and dedication Ian has put into his training to ensure he is ready to respond when required and to have the skills and knowledge to train and guide others in the Tora Volunteer Rural Fire Force."
Mr Wishnowsky said the awarding of the certificate to Mr Hunter was a mark of his drive and commitment to ensure the local community had the skills and resources to respond to an emergency when required.
