Police were keen to use the incident as a reminder for people to be prepared when venturing out into the wilderness.
"Anyone going hiking should ensure they have appropriate clothing and food, means of communication and the necessary equipment on them.
"If you're relying on a cell phone for communication please ensure it is charged enough and you'll have reception."
Carrying a portable charger was also good idea.
People should also seek local knowledge, plan their route and determine how long it would reasonably expect to take.
"Tell someone your plans and leave a time and date to raise the alarm if you haven't returned."
