Herald on Sunday sportswriters featured large in the Sir Terry McLean national sports journalism awards last week.
Sports editor Paul Lewis won the CBL Insurance New Zealand Sports Journalists' Association supreme sports journalist of the year and also won the adidas award for sports feature writing and the NZOC awardfor sports column writing, for his opinions on the America's Cup in San Francisco.
Lewis was also made a life member of the association and was a finalist in the sports news award (won by the Dominion-Post's Mark Geenty) and online sports news reporting (won by John Matheson of Matheson Sports Media).
The Herald on Sunday's Andrew Alderson was also a winner - in the Wilson Award for Sports Broadcasting (Radio) - for coverage in Europe while on a busman's holiday and reporting for the Herald on Sunday, the New Zealand Herald and Radio Sport.
Alderson was also a finalist in three other categories - sports news reporting, online sports news reporting and best community sports/recreation/adventure writing.
The Herald on Sunday's Michael Burgess also made it into the final of the feature writing award and the best community sports/recreation/adventure award and the New Zealand Herald's Dana Johannsen and Wynne Gray were also finalists in the news reporting and best column awards.
